(8:30PM - 7/8/20) The region continues to be in the midst of a heat wave, with hot temperatures expected to continue for the few several days across the state...along with increased humidity and heat indices.
The main heat wave will continue to occur this week through Friday, with high temperatures into the 90's across at least portions of the state during the remaining days of this period. However, some t'storm activity may be likely for some areas from time to time, which will temper the heat in a few areas at times. Additionally, dew points have increased over the past few days. The combination of high temperatures and increased dew points have lead to higher humidity and heat index values, upwards of the mid 90's to low 100's. Low temperatures across the state will continue to be in the mid 60's to mid 70's for most areas on a nightly basis.
Thursday, July 9th Forecast...
High temperatures ranging from the upper 80's to mid 90's across the state, with cooler temps expected in areas affected by more cloud cover and t'storms. Heat index values in the upper 80's to low 100's across the state. Periods of showers and t'storms will be likely across the state Thursday morning through Thursday night. Low temperatures in the low 60's to mid 70's across the state.
Friday, July 10th Forecast...
High temperatures ranging from the low 80's to low 90's across the state, with the hotter temps being across Southern Illinois and the cooler temps across Northern Illinois. Heat index values in the low 80's to upper 90's across the state. Low temperatures in the low 60's to low 70's across the state.
Things kicked off last week, with widespread warm to hot temperatures across the state. High temperatures across the state this last week generally ranged from the mid 80's to mid 90's...the exception being areas that had been impacted with t'storm activity. The combination of high temperatures and high dew points lead to high humidity and heat index values for a few of the days. Heat index values in the upper 90's to mid 100's occurred across portions of Northern and Central Illinois for a few days, during the early to early to middle of this past week.
From Saturday-Sunday July 4-5th, high temperatures ranged from the upper 80's to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's across the state. Lower dew points helped keep humidity and heat index values in check during this time. From Monday-Wednesday July 6-8th, high temperatures ranged from the low to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's across the state. Slowly increasing dew points lead to slightly higher humidity and heat index values during this time.
With all of that said, we continue with an overall low heat wave impact for this period. An update will be provided each day for the duration of this heat wave across the state. Each update will feature a recap of previous days temperatures, along with the forecast for the next two days, and any other overall additional information.
