(10:15PM Thursday - 7/21/22) A large ridge that has been in place much of this summer across the Inter-Mountain West, Plains and Southeast is flexing back into the region once again, bringing another push of hot and humid conditions to portions of the region and state. These conditions will continue through the rest pf this week, through this upcoming weekend and potentially into the beginning of next week.

(9:30PM Thursday - 7/21/22) The latest NOAA drought monitor valid July 19th, 2022 continues to have large portions of Illinois experiencing abnormally dry (D0) to severe drought (D2) conditions. The good news is that with this update drought conditions did not expand or worsen across the state. In fact, for the second consecutive update drought conditions have improved for some areas across portions of the state, due to periods of beneficial rainfall for some areas the past few weeks.
The next drought monitor update will be on July 28th.

(7:45PM Saturday - 7/16/22) As has been the case much of this summer, a large ridge was place during this period across the Inter-Mountain West and Plains. A piece of this ridge extended into the region, bringing a brief period of hot temperatures to portions of the state over a few day period.
Wrap-Up... •This heat episode occurred across the Southern Illinois, from Thursday July 14th through Saturday July 16th. •Daily high temperatures were well into the 90's for affected areas across Southern Illinois, with a few locations topping 100 at times. •Oppressive and noteworthy heat index values only occurred on the final of this heat episode, with peak values of 100-110 for affected areas across South Illinois on Sat, July 16th.
