​​(9:45AM Friday - 7/22/22) As multiple disturbances move through the region over the next few days, a few rounds of rain/t'storms are expected across the state. Given environmental conditions expected to be in place, a severe t'storm risk is expected with some of this activity over the next few days.

•This Afternoon - Early Saturday Morning, July 22-23rd: Northern and Central Illinois.
•Early Saturday Morning - Early Sunday Morning, July 23-24th: Northern Illinois.

Impacts...
•A level 1 severe t'storm risk is in place across Northern and Central Illinois, from this afternoon through early Saturday morning. Isolated severe t'storms will be possible, posing a risk of damaging winds and large hail.
•A level 1 to 2 severe t'storm risk is in place across Northern Illinois, from early Saturday morning through early Sunday morning. Isolated to widely scattered severe t'storms will be possible, posing a risk of damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado.

Tue-Mon, July 19-25th Heat Wave Update #5

​(10:15PM Thursday - 7/21/22) A large ridge that has been in place much of this summer across the Inter-Mountain West, Plains and Southeast is flexing back into the region once again, bringing another push of hot and humid conditions to portions of the region and state. These conditions will continue through the rest pf this week, through this upcoming weekend and potentially into the beginning of next week.

•Fri, July 22nd: All of Illinois.
•Sat, July 23rd: All of Illinois.
•Sun, July 24th: Central & Southern Illinois.
•Mon, July 25th: Southern Illinois.

Impacts...
•Fri, July 22nd: High temperatures ranging from the upper 80's to upper 90's across much of Illinois, with peak heat indices of 93-105.
•Sat, July 23rd: High temperatures ranging from the low 90's to low 100's across much of Illinois, with a few locations topping 100 across Southwest Illinois. Peak heat indices of 95-115 are expected.
•Sun, July 24th: High temperatures ranging from the upper 80's to upper 90's across Central and Southern Illinois, with a few locations topping 100 across Southern Illinois. Peak heat indices of 95-115 are expected.
•Mon, July 25th: High temperatures ranging from the upper 80's to mid 90's across Southern Illinois, with a few locations topping 100. Peak heat indices of 93-110 are expected.

Summer 2022 Drought - July 19th Update

​(9:30PM Thursday - 7/21/22) The latest NOAA drought monitor valid July 19th, 2022 continues to have large portions of Illinois experiencing abnormally dry (D0) to severe drought (D2) conditions. The good news is that with this update drought conditions did not expand or worsen across the state. In fact, for the second consecutive update drought conditions have improved for some areas across portions of the state, due to periods of beneficial rainfall for some areas the past few weeks.

​The next drought monitor update will be on July 28th.

Thur, July 21st Severe T'Storm Episode

(2:45PM Thursday - 7/21/22) As a disturbance is moving through the region today, isolated to scattered showers and t'storms will develop this afternoon in association with it, across portions of Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. This activity will then move east-southeastward across portions of Northern and Central Illinois, this afternoon through tonight. Given environmental conditions expected to be in place, a severe t'storm risk will be possible with some of this activity across portions of Northern and Central Illinois.

(7:45PM Saturday - 7/16/22) As has been the case much of this summer, a large ridge was place during this period across the Inter-Mountain West and Plains. A piece of this ridge extended into the region, bringing a brief period of hot temperatures to portions of the state over a few day period.

Wrap-Up...

•This heat episode occurred across the Southern Illinois, from Thursday July 14th through Saturday July 16th.
•Daily high temperatures were well into the 90's for affected areas across Southern Illinois, with a few locations topping 100 at times.
•Oppressive and noteworthy heat index values only occurred on the final of this heat episode, with peak values of 100-110 for affected areas across South Illinois on Sat, July 16th.
