A storm system will move through the region on Saturday, bringing a period of snow and minor/nuisance accumulation to Northern and Central Illinois. Model guidance has been showing this potential for a few days...However, there has been and continues to be a large spread in solutions at this time. For now with this initial forecast we have taken a middle ground approach...However, due to the large amount of disagreement within model guidance, significant changes are possible in later forecast update.
A area of snow will spread across Northern and Central Illinois, Saturday morning into Saturday night. Across Southern Illinois, a transition zone will set up, between rain and snow. With cold air in place, the snow will be of the high ratio/fluffy variety.
Final snowfall totals upwards of a dusting to 1" or so are expected across much of Northern and Central Illinois, with amounts upwards of 1-3" into Western Illinois.
Below is the snowfall forecast for this event.
