Veterans Day Snowstorm (Sun-Mon, Nov 10-11th) Recap - Records Shattered

(2:00PM - 11/12/19) Post storm wrap up regarding the recent Sun-Mon, November 10-11th Veterans Day snowstorm that affected the state. This ended up being the biggest snowfall on record for Veterans Day, for many areas across the state.

This storm system produced widespread snow accumulation across the state, with several inches for some area. Snow first started across Northern Illinois early Sunday night, continuing into late Monday morning and early Monday afternoon. Snow spread across Central Illinois from early Monday morning through late Monday afternoon. Across Southern Illinois precipitation started as rain, before changing to snow during Monday afternoon and then continuing into Monday evening. At times moderate snow with upwards of 1"/hour snowfall rates occurred. Final snowfall totals across Central and Southern Illinois were generally in the 1-3" range, though a few isolated higher amounts occurred. The main axis of heavier snow accumulation was across Northern Illinois, where generally 3-6" fell.

​This snowstorm also ended up shattering snowfall records for Veterans Day across the state, making it the biggest Veterans Day snowfall on record for many areas. A list of cities and associated new/old records is below.
