11/10-11/11 Record Cold Still Expected Along With Below Zero Wind Chills

Our attention has been a bit more focused on the upcoming snowstorm the last two days or so but we also continue to keep an eye on the very impressive and record cold that we have been talking about since last week. Don't worry, that is still on the way! With the snow more likely with several inches on the way for some, that only leads to higher confidence on below zero wind chills across portions of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

Daytime highs on Monday will be very cold for some but areas across downstate will escape the January like temperatures until Tuesday. Given temperatures after midnight tonight across the northern part of the state will still be above any records, we will have to wait until Tuesday for the record cold to arrive. The coldest spots tomorrow will be across northern Illinois over what will be a fresh snow pack. 

The entire state will be overrun with very impressive cold air as the heart of this outbreak centers itself over the Midwest. Daytime highs will range from the mid to upper teens and low 20's across northern Illinois which will most likely shatter records, with central and southern Illinois only getting into the low to upper 20's. These readings are 25-30 degrees below what is normal for this time of year! 

Moving onto wind chill values.....it is now looking very likely that a good portion of the state will see very cold wind chill values on Tuesday morning and dipping below zero for a time. 

Going into Wednesday, temperatures will still be quite cold but model guidance at this time is showing wind chill values being a bit warmer, in the mid to upper single digits statewide. We will continue to send out updates on this record cold outbreak that is on the way into the Midwest and here in Illinois.
