Numerical model guidance has not changed its tune regarding the serious and impressive cold outbreak on the way for early next week and one that looks to break records across the region. It is pretty darn cold outside today across Illinois but the ocld on the way for early next week means business for so early in the season. I dig into the latest details below....
Below is a four day loop to show a good visualization of the very cold air mass sweeping down from western and southern Canada and into the northern plains before arriving into the Midwest and our area by early next week. The brighter the colors the colder the temperatures are compared to normal just off the surface.

Yesterday in the forecast article, daytime highs for Monday and Tuesday were talked about....today, I'm going to talk about the overnight lows and the wind chill values that will be seen as daytime highs still look to be about the same for those two days. Those highs will range from the low to mid 20's across the northern part of the state to the low to mid 30's across southern Illinois on Monday. For Tuesday, it could be even a tad colder with more widespread low to upper 20's for the entire state with the surface high pressure system overhead.

*Below are forecast LOW temperatures for Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning*

Below is a first thought on overnight lows for early Wednesday morning across the Midwest and Illinois.

The coldest period right now looks to be Tuesday morning when wind chill values will dip well into the single digits with some areas across the northern part of the state flirting with or even dropping below zero! The image below is forecast wind chill values at 6am on Tuesday morning.
