(11:30AM Saturday - 6/25/22) As a disturbance moves through the region, a large area of showers and t'storms has been moving through the region and across portions of Northern and Central Illinois last night into this morning. In the wake of this activity, as another disturbance moves through the region, a new round of showers and t'storms are expected to develop along a cold front this afternoon across portions of Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa, Northwest Illinois and Missouri. This activity will move southeastward into the state, and then traverse portions of the state, this afternoon through very early Sunday morning. Given environmental conditions expected to be in place, a severe t'storm risk will be possible with some of this activity across a large portion of Illinois.

(2:30PM Friday - 6/24/22) The latest NOAA drought monitor valid June 21st, 2022 now has portions of Illinois experiencing moderate drought (D1) conditions, with abnormally dry (D0) conditions becoming more widespread across the state as well. Several factors have contributed to the formation of this drought across portions of the state, including but not limited to: Lack of widespread and consistent rainfall, hot temperatures, high soil moisture evaporation due to the time of year, ample sun and hot temperatures.

(5:00PM Thursday - 6/23/22) During this period a ridge quickly built in and moved eastward through the Central and Eastern US. As this ridge moved through, along with it came a brief push of hot and humid conditions from Monday, June 20th through Wednesday, June 22nd. These conditions took up residence across the state and region for a few day period, bringing hot temperatures well into the 90's and high heat index values well into the 90's and 100's.

These conditions expanded and took up residence across the state and region for a several day period, bringing hot temperatures well into the 90's and high heat index values well into the 100's.

(4:00PM Thursday - 6/23/22) As a disturbance moved through the region, an area of severe t'storms developed across portions of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa the evening and night of Thursday, June 16th. This activity congealed in to a large complex, known as an MCS, and then moved southeastward across the Mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley and Southeast, overnight Thursday night through Friday night. This MCS traversed a large portion of Central and Southern Illinois Friday morning, producing widespread severe t'storms.
