A storm system will move from the Plains on Saturday morning, through the Mid-Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, and then into the Northeast by Sunday morning. This storm system is expected to bring a swath of accumulating snow across the northern half of the state, Saturday morning through Sunday morning. Additionally, lake enhancement/lake effect snow will be likely across Northeast Illinois during this time as well. With this update no significant changes were needed, as the going forecast looks good based on current information. At this time there continues to be some disagreement within model guidance, which will be resolved in the next 18 to 24 hours leading up to the winter storm. Stay tuned for future updates.

Christmas Eve - Christmas Day, Fri-Sat Dec 24-25th... High temperatures across the state on Christmas Eve (Fri, Dec 24th) made it well into the 50's and 60's, with some locations across Western and Southern Illinois having topped out around 70. Several locations across the state tied or broke record high temperatures for the date of Dec 24th. A storm system moved across the state on Christmas Day (Sat, Dec 25th), ushering in cooler temperatures across the northern half of the state. However, the southern half of the state continued to see mild to warm temperatures, with high temperatures into the 60's and 70's. Several locations across the southern half of the state tied or broke record high temperatures for the date of Dec 25th.
