An Arctic cold front will be sweeping across the state today, which will usher in a period over bitter cold temperatures and wind chills to portions of the state. A few snow showers may accompany the frontal passage late this morning into this afternoon across portions of Northern Illinois. Attention then towards the cold temps that will push in behind the front.
Low temps tonight will likely get down to -10 to -20 across much of Northern and West-Central Illinois, with slightly "warmer" temps of 5 to -5 across Eastern Illinois. On top of the already cold temps, winds of 15-35mph overnight and Friday morning will lead to bitterly cold wind chill readings. Wind chills across much of Northern and West-Central Illinois will likely range from -20 to -30, with slightly "warmer" reading of -5 to -15 across Eastern Illinois. Southern Illinois will escape the worst conditions, with lows of 5 to 15 and wind chills of -5 to 5.
Friday night will also feature bitter cold, but potentially slightly more modest. Low temps Friday night and Saturday morning will likely get down to 0 to -15 across much of Northern and West-Central Illinois, with slightly "warmer" temps of 10 to -5 across Eastern Illinois. On top of the already cold temps, winds of 5-15mph Friday night and Saturday morning will lead to bitterly cold wind chill readings. Wind chills across much of Northern and West-Central Illinois will likely range from -10 to -25, with slightly "warmer" reading of 0 to -15 across Eastern Illinois. Southern Illinois will escape the worst conditions, with lows of 10 to 20 and wind chills of 0 to 15.
