With this update we have expanded level 3 severe t'storm risk probabilities across portions of Northern Illinois.

•Early Friday afternoon - Early Friday night, March 31st.

Location...
•All of Illinois.

Impacts...
•A level 2 to 3 severe t'storm risk is in place across all of Illinois, from early Friday afternoon through early Friday night. 
•Widely scattered to scattered severe t'storms are likely, posing a risk of damaging winds, large hail and some tornadoes.

​​​(1:00AM Sat, March 25th 2023) Early Saturday morning update regarding a storm system that will move through the region through Saturday, bringing several inches of accumulating snow to portions of Northern Illinois. With this update we have increased expected snowfall amounts, based on real time observations and latest weather model guidance information.

​Location...
•Northern Illinois.

Timing...
•Early Saturday morning - Early Saturday afternoon, March 25th.

Impacts...
•Precipitation has developed in the form of rain tonight, and is steadily changing to snow. After transition, snow will then continue through much of Saturday morning, before ending by early Saturday afternoon.
•Snowfall accumulation of several inches is expected across portions of Northern Illinois, with a sharp southern gradient to the snowfall likely.
•Periods of heavy snow will be likely at times. Thundersnow will be possible at times as well.
•The weight of the heavy/wet snow, combined with gusty winds, may lead to some instances of tree damage.

•Precipitation will develop and begin as rain across Northern Illinois, this evening into early tonight. Rain will eventually mix with and change to snow across portions of Northern Illinois overnight tonight. Snow will then continue through much of Saturday morning, before ending early Saturday afternoon.
•Snowfall accumulation will range from upwards of <1" to 2-5" across portions of Northern Illinois, with locally higher amounts likely.

This will bring a few additional periods of rain and t'storms to portions of the state, with continued severe t'storm potential and heavy rain/flood potential across the southern half of the state. With this update we have moved severe t'storm probabilities a bit north for today/tonight across Southern Illinois, and have adjusted the heavy rain/flood forecast a bit based on real time observations.

-This afternoon - Early tonight, March 24th: Southern Illinois.

•Heavy Rain/Flooding:
-Thru tonight

Impacts...
•A final round of severe t'storm potential is expected across Southern Illinois, this afternoon through tonight.
•Widespread heavy rainfall is expected across portions of the state, especially Southern Illinois, through tonight. Widespread final event rainfall totals upwards of 1.00-5.00" are expected in a corridor across Southern Illinois, with locally higher amounts possible. Localized to widespread flooding is likely.
