With this update there has been some improvement to drought conditions across the state, thanks to a continued active weather pattern.

While there was little change to drought conditions across the state with this update, there has been significant improvement of drought conditions across the state over the past several weeks, due to an active weather pattern.

(5:00PM Fri, Dec 23rd 2022) A cold and dry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are on tap for Illinois, on Saturday and Sunday. On top of the continued cold temperatures and wind chills expected through the Christmas weekend, windy conditions with blowing and drifting snow will continue to be possible on Christmas Eve as well. As we end Christmas weekend, another storm system will move into the region, bringing the chance for snow across portions of the state, Christmas Day night/Sunday night into Monday.

Windy conditions continue as well, with blowing and drifting snow possible, especially across rural/open areas of the state. •Christmas Day: Dry conditions and continued cold temperatures and wind chills, but a bit less so than previous days. The most significant and widespread drought conditions continue to be across Southeastern and Southern Illinois. With this update, drought conditions have improved across the state. Widespread and heavy precipitation across the state last week has lead to the improvement of drought conditions, including the removal of extreme drought (D3) conditions that had been in place across far Southern Illinois.
