The combination of a trough and storm system moving from the Western US on into the Great Lakes, and a ridge in place across the Southeastern US, will bring a brief shot of unseasonably and record warm temperatures to portions of the state and region on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

High temperatures across the state today (Christmas Eve Dec 24th) will make it well into the 50's and 60's, with some locations across Western and Southwestern Illinois possibly getting in the vicinity of 70. There is the chance that some locations could approach record record high temperatures for the date of Dec 24th, across portions of the state.

Christmas Day...
A storm system will move across the state on Saturday (Christmas Day Dec 25th), ushering in cooler temperatures across the northern half of the state. However, the southern half of the state will continue to see mild to warm temperatures, with high temperatures into the 60's and 70's. It is likely that some locations will break record record high temperatures for the date of Dec 25th, across southern portions of the state.
