(11:45AM - 8/27/20) A storm system is expected to move through the region on Friday, bringing a low end threat for severe t'storms to much of Northern and Central Illinois. Additionally, the remnants of Hurricane Laura will bring a low end severe t'storm threat across portions of Southern Illinois.

Summary...
A few isolated to scattered showers and t'storms may be ongoing Friday morning across portions of Northern Illinois. A good deal of clearing and destabilization will occur across much of the state on Friday. Scattered showers and t'storms are likely to develop Friday afternoon, along a cold front moving across portions of Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. This activity is expected to push east-southeast, into and across portions of Northern and Central Illinois later Friday afternoon into Friday night. An environment in place will feature moderate instability, high moisture, good shear and good forcing. Upwards of a minimal to limited severe t'storm threat is expected across much Northern and Central Illinois, with damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado being the main threats.
Further south, the remnants of Hurricane Laura are expected to track south of the Ohio River on Friday. This will be close enough to pose a low end severe t'storm threat across far Southern Illinois. Damaging winds and an isolated tornado will be the main threats. Outside of severe t'storm and general t'storm potential, breezy conditions are expected, with wind gusts of 25-40mph being possible.
