(9:00PM - 7/24/20) A short duration period of hot and humid conditions has begun to affect the state and region, and will continue to through this weekend.
Summary.... A strong ridge is briefly building into the region this weekend, allowing for a brief push of hot and humid conditions. While this will not be a heat wave by our standards, it is noteworthy enough to discuss. The most widespread hot and humid conditions will be on Saturday and Sunday across the state, when high temperatures well into the 90's and heat index values in the mid 90's to mid 100's are likely. Friday and Monday will serve as fringe days, with only portions of the state being affected with tempered conditions.

Saturday, July 25th Forecast... High temperatures will range from the upper 80's to mid 90's across the state. Heat index values will be in the low 90's to low 100's across Northwest, Western and Southern Illinois, to the upper 80's to mid 90's across Northeast and Eastern Illinois. Low temperatures in the low 60's to low 70's will be common across the state. Sunday, July 26th Forecast... High temperatures will range from the upper 80's to mid 90's across the state. Heat index values will be in the low 90's to low 100's across the state as well. Low temperatures in the mid 60's to mid 70's will be common across the state. Scattered showers and t’storms will be possible across portions of Northern Illinois, tempering the heat for some areas.
