(10:30PM - 2/14/19) Thursday evening update regarding the expected snow and ice event across Southern Illinois Friday afternoon into late Friday night.
Model guidance has been in very good agreement regarding this event coming into today, and that continues at this time. However, most guidance this afternoon and evening has shifted this event south a bit, as well as a bit weaker. A fast moving and compact storm system will rapidly push across the region Friday into Saturday, bringing a period of snow and ice to portions of Southern Illinois early Friday afternoon into very late Friday night. This event will only last for a several hour period, with precipitation rates staying light to moderate intensity. This event will not be significant, with only light accumulations of snow and ice expected. A swath of 1-3" of snow is likely across Southern Illinois, with an axis of up to 0.10" of ice across far Southern Illinois...locally higher amounts of snow and ice are possible. Below is our updated TAM snow and ice forecasts for this event.
