(11:45AM - 1/14/22) A winter storm will be moving through the region today through Saturday. This winter storm is expected to produce a swath of accumulating snow across the region, including into the western half of the state.

A storm system will move from the Plains on today, through the Lower-Mississippi Valley on Saturday afternoon, and then into the Southeast on Sunday. This winter storm is expected to bring a swath of accumulating snow into the western half of the state, this morning through Saturday morning.

​With this update no significant changes were needed, as the going forecast is on track based on current information and real time observations.

​Forecast...
Snow is beginning to spread into portions of Northwest and Western Illinois as of midday today, with this activity to expand across more of Northern and Central Illinois through the afternoon. Across Southern Illinois, precipitation will begin as a rain/snow mix depending on location, this evening into early tonight...With this activity then transitioning to all snow with time overnight tonight. Snow is then expected across these areas from the aforementioned onset times, through very late tonight or very Saturday early morning, before ending with time by mid Saturday morning. Snow intensity will generally vary from light to moderate for the duration of this winter storm, with snowfall rates up to or in excess of 0.5" per hour at times. It is possible there could be a few bursts of heavy snow at times, closer to the Illinois/Iowa/Missouri border regions.

Impacts...
-Snowfall totals upwards of 1-3" to 2-5" are expected across Northwest, West-Central and Southwestern Illinois, with a dusting to 1" elsewhere across the state.
-Travel impacts are likely across Northwest, West-Central and Southwestern Illinois.
