(7:00PM - 1/11/19) A short term update regarding the ongoing major snowstorm that has started to affect the state...
An area of moderate to heavy snow has spread into portions of West, Southwest and Southern Illinois this afternoon and evening. Snowfall rates of 1-3" per hour have been occurring, and will continue for some areas at times overnight. Snowfall totals of 3-7" have already been reported across the St. Louis metro area and into Southwest Illinois. Major traffic disruption has already occurred for many areas where snow is falling, especially in the St. Louis metro area, where numerous accidents have occurred. Travel is discouraged for those impacted by the snowfall. The aforementioned area of snow is expected to spread across a decent portion of the state overnight, and continuing into Saturday.
A full update with an updated TAM snowfall map will be out early tonight after most of evening model guidance has come in, with additional short term updates likely through the weekend.
