Fri-Mon, June 21-24th Severe T'Storm Threat Update #5

(10:15AM - 6/22/19) A series of disturbances pushing through the region, along with a meandering frontal boundary, will bring the threat for repeated rounds of severe t'storms to the state through Sunday.

Friday/night recap...
Two clusters of rain and t'storms moved across Central and Southern Illinois Friday morning into Friday evening, with a third across the same areas Friday night. The first two clusters brought widespread severe weather, in the form of wind and hail.

​​This morning-tonight...
Several clusters of rain and t'storms are expected to move across much of the state this morning through tonight. A cluster of rain and t'storms that pushed across Central and Southern Illinois last night into this morning has already exited the state. A second cluster of rain and t'storms is currently moving across portions of Western and Southwest Illinois, and will likely push southeastward into much f Southern Illinois this morning and early afternoon. An isolated severe t'storm is possible with this activity, with wind and hail being the main threats. Additional areas of rain and t'storms will push into the state from Iowa and Missouri, later this afternoon and more likely tonight. Near and south of the warm front expected to be sitting across the heart of the state, an environment in place featuring high instability, high moisture and good shear is expected. This will promote an isolated to widely scattered to scattered severe t'storm threat across a decent portion of the state, with the activity expected later this afternoon into tonight. Wind and hail will be the main threats.

Sunday morning-Sunday night...
Several clusters of rain and t'storms are expected to move across much of the state Sunday morning through Sunday night. An environment in place featuring moderate to high instability, high moisture and good shear is expected. This will promote an isolated to widely scattered to scattered severe t'storm threat across much of the state. Wind and hail will be the main threats.

It should be noted that a severe t'storm threat on Monday looks no longer likely, as the system is expected to exit the region to the west a bit sooner than previously shown.

A severe t’storm threat will likely continue into Monday as well for portions of the state. This will be discussed further in upcoming updates as the time approaches.
