Halloween Snowstorm Possible?

10/27/2019

(7:00AM - 10/28/19) Several days ago we mentioned the possibility for a storm system to affect the state around the Halloween time-frame, and that this system could hold the potential for some snow across portions of the state. Well, model guidance continues to show this storm system as we close in on said time-frame, and the potential for snow with it across portions of the state.
There is still some variability within model guidance on how exactly this storm system evolves, in an overall complex setup. However, we're at the point where it is very likely this storm system will impact the state, and as time goes on the chances for snow across portions of the state increases as well. At this point, a storm system looks likely to develop across the region, tracking from the lower Mississippi Valley on Wednesday northeastward into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes on Thursday. Overrunning precipitation would be possible early Wednesday morning through Wednesday night, including the potential for a narrow corridor of snow or mixed precip. Should this occur, the best chance for that corridor would be across portions of Western and Northern Illinois. On Thursday as the main storm system ejects northeastward and wraps up, an axis of snow would be possible across portions of Western and Northern Illinois. Across the rest of the state, rain and t'storms would be likely on Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, this will likely lead to either a snowy and/or rainy Halloween for trick-or-treaters.

To recap...A storm system is likely to affect the state on Wednesday and Thursday, with the *potential* for accumulating snow across portions of the state. We are still just a bit too far out to discuss amounts or exact details, especially considering some model variability in a complex setup. Stay tuned to additional updates in the coming days on this event.
