As expected, a large area of precipitation has overspread much of the state this afternoon. At this time, an area of moderate to heavy snow is ongoing across all of Northern Illinois. Snowfall accumulations of a dusting to 2" have already occurred across this area. Snow is expected to continue for a couple to several more hours, before eventually transitioning to sleet and freezing rain. Further south, a mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain is ongoing across Central Illinois. Minor snow/sleet and ice accumulation has already occurred for many areas. With time, precip with change to all freezing rain, before changing to rain later tonight.
