Heavy Snow Pounding St. Louis Area With 1-2"/Hour Snowfall Rates (Sun-Mon Dec 15-16th Winter Storm)12/15/2019
(2:30PM - 12/15/19) A brief short term update regarding the ongoing winter storm affecting the state.
A large area of snow has overspread portions of Central/Southern Illinois this morning and afternoon. Snow has generally been light to moderate for most areas. However, there is a band of heavy snow pushing northward across Eastern Missouri and Central/Southern Illinois, including the St. Louis area. Snowfall rates within this band of heavy snow have been reported at 1-2"/hour. Snowfall totals across portions of Southwest Illinois back into Eastern Missouri, including the St. Louis area, have been reported in the 1-4" range so far.
Snow will continue to spread across much of Central and portions of Southern Illinois, through this evening and into tonight. A couple to several inches of accumulation will be likely, depending on location.
