Late June-Early July Heat Wave Recap

(4:00PM - 7/10/20) The first heat wave of the year impacted the state and region, from the end of June through early July. Multiple days with high temperatures well into the 90's occurred, along with a few days of high humidity and heat indices. 

​​Recap Summary...
Things kicked off the week of June 29th, with widespread warm to hot temperatures across Northern and portions of Central Illinois. High temperatures across Northern and portions of Central Illinois generally ranged from the mid 80's to mid 90's. Across other portions of Central and Southern Illinois, repeated rain and t'storm activity kept temperatures cooler, in the upper 70's to upper 80's. The combination of high temperatures and high dew points lead to high humidity and heat index values for a few of the days. Heat index values in the upper 90's to mid 100's occurred across portions of Northern and portions of Central Illinois for a few days, during the early to early to middle of the week.

From Saturday-Sunday July 4-5th, high temperatures ranged from the upper 80's to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's  across the state. Lower dew points helped keep humidity and heat index values in check during this time. From Monday-Thursday July 6-9th, high temperatures ranged from the low to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's across the state. Slowly increasing dew points lead to slightly higher humidity and heat index values during this time.
