Late June-Early July Heat Wave Update #4

7/7/2020

(7:30PM - 7/7/20) The region continues to be in the midst of a heat wave, with hot temperatures expected to continue for the next several days across the state...along with increasing humidity and heat indices.

Forecast Summary....
The main heat wave will continue to occur this week through Friday, with high temperatures across the state likely to range from the low to mid 90's on a daily basis. However, some t'storm activity may be likely for some areas from time to time, which could temper the heat in a few areas at times. Additionally, dew points will slowly increase mid to late week. The combination of high temperatures and increasing dew points will lead to higher humidity and heat index values, increasing to the mid 90's to low 100's for mid to late week. Low temperatures across the state will be in the mid 60's to mid 70's for more areas on a nightly basis, and possibly a bit warmer in urban metro areas

Wednesday, July 8th Forecast...
High temperatures ranging from the low to upper 90's across the state, with cooler temps expected in Northeast Illinois near Lake Michigan. Heat index values in the low 90's to mid 100's across the state. An isolated and highly localized t'storm will be possible during the afternoon/evening across the state. Low temperatures in the low 60's to mid 70's across the state, possibly a bit warmer in urban metro areas.

Thursday, July 9th Forecast...

High temperatures ranging from the mid 80's to mid 90's across the state, with cooler temps expected in Northeast Illinois near Lake Michigan and in areas affected by t'storms. Heat index values in the mid 80's to mid 100's across the state. Periods of showers and t'storms will be possible across the state Thursday into Thursday night. Low temperatures in the low 60's to mid 70's across the state.
Recap Summary...
Things kicked off last week, with widespread warm to hot temperatures across the state. High temperatures across the state this last week generally ranged from the mid 80's to mid 90's...the exception being areas that had been impacted with t'storm activity. The combination of high temperatures and high dew points lead to high humidity and heat index values for a few of the days. Heat index values in the upper 90's to mid 100's occurred across portions of Northern and Central Illinois for a few days, during the early to early to middle of this past week.

From Saturday-Sunday July 4-5th, high temperatures ranged from the upper 80's to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's  across the state. Lower dew points helped keep humidity and heat index values in check during this time. From Monday-Tuesday July 6-7th, high temperatures ranged from the low to mid 90's, with low temperatures in mid 60's to mid 70's across the state. Slowly increasing dew points lead to slightly higher humidity and heat index values during this time.

With all of that said, we continue with an overall low heat wave impact for this period. An update will be provided each day for the duration of this heat wave across the state. Each update will feature a recap of previous days temperatures, along with the forecast for the next two days, and any other overall additional information.
