Summary....
A heat wave has begun to impact the state, and will continue to impact the state and region over the next week or so. During this time, the ridge in place will fluctuate north and south. This will lead to consistently hot temperatures across the southern half of the state, and altering hot to more tolerable summer conditions across the northern half of the state, where an active storm pattern will also be in place. With the initial ridge building in through Thursday, high temperatures into the 90's will be likely across the southern half of the state on a daily basis, with low temperatures in the mid 60's to mid 70's on a nightly basis. Humidity  and heat indices will be increasing, with heat index values in the low 90's to low 100's on a daily basis. The ridge is expected to strengthen and build northward around the weekend, from Friday through Monday. During this time much of the state will see high temperatures well into the 90's on a daily basis, with high temperatures into the low 100's possible across Southwest Illinois.
