(9:00PM - 7/18/20) A heat wave continues to affect the region, and will continue to impact the region over the next several days or so...Bringing hot temperatures, high humidity and high heat indices to the state and region during this period.
Summary.... A heat wave has been affecting portions of the state the past several days, and will continue to impact the state and region over the next several days or so. During this time, the ridge in place will fluctuate north and south. This will lead to consistently hot temperatures across the southern half of the state, and altering hot to more tolerable summer conditions across the northern half of the state, where an active storm pattern will also be in place. For this weekend, the ridge strengthened and flexed northward. During this time much of the state will see high temperatures well into the 90's on a daily basis. Low temperatures in the mid 60's to upper 70's will be likely on a nightly basis. High humidity and heat indices will be in place during this time, with heat index values in the mid 90's to mid 100's on a daily basis. For next week, the ridge will flatten out back southward once again, as it was this past week. During this time the southern half of the state will see high temperatures into the 90's on a daily basis. Low temperatures in the mid 60's to upper 70's will be likely on a nightly basis. High humidity and heat indices will be in place during this time, with heat index values in the low 90's to mid 100's on a daily basis. An update will be provided each day for the duration of this heat wave across the state. Each update will feature a recap of previous days temperatures, along with the forecast for the next two days, and any other overall additional information.

Low temperatures in the mid 60's to upper 70's across the state. Monday, July 20th Forecast... High temperatures will range from the upper 80's to mid 90's across Southern Illinois, to the low to upper 80's across Northern and Central Illinois. Heat index values in the upper 80's to upper 90's across Southern Illinois, to the mid 80's to low 90's across Northern and Central Illinois. Low temperatures in the low 60's to mid 70's across the state.

The core of the ridge flexed into the region on Saturday, bringing the most widespread hot and humid conditions of this period. High temperatures topped out in the upper 80's to mid 90's across the state. Heat index values ranged from the mid 90's to upper 100's across the state. Low temperatures in the low 60's to mid 70's were common across the state. Isolated showers and t'storms moved across Northern Illinois, though this activity did not temper conditions much.
