Mon-Tue, Dec 30-31st Snow Event Update #1

12/30/2019

(7:30PM - 12/30/19) Two storm systems that have been moving through the region the past few days brought heavy rain and mild temperatures to the state this weekend. On the backside of these storm systems, a brief return to winter-like conditions is occurring, with accumulating snow expected for portions of the state this evening through Tuesday morning.
Monday Morning-Tuesday Morning...
On the backside of the second storm system moving through the region, scattered snow showers occurred across portions of Northern Illinois this morning, bringing a dusting of snow to some areas. Additional scattered snow showers have been occurring across portions of Northern Illinois late this afternoon and evening. Some areas have picked up a dusting of snow with this activity.

Of more focus is an area of snow that is expected to push southward out of Wisconsin and Minnesota, and down into Northern Illinois early tonight. This period of snow will then continue overnight, before ending Tuesday morning. Final snowfall accumulations for this event will generally range from a dusting to 2" for most areas across Northern Illinois...potentially into portions of Central Illinois as well. However, isolated higher snowfall totals of 2-3" will be possible closer to the Illinois/Wisconsin border. This snowfall will likely lead to travel issues across Northern Illinois for Tuesday morning.

In addition to the snow, windy conditions are expected across much of Northern and portions of Central Illinois this evening through Tuesday morning. Wind gusts of 25-45mph will be possible during this time. Some blowing snow will be possible tonight into Tuesday morning for some areas, especially in prone areas.

Below is the TAM snowfall forecast for this event.
