(11:00PM - 12/24/19) After an early start to winter, with back to back snow storms and record cold at the end of October into early November...Winter has generally been on hiatus for the most part since then. The pattern has generally been mild and relatively snow-less, and this is now extending into the Christmas holiday.
This Christmas will feature rare/unusually mild temperatures across the state, likely record breaking for some areas. High temperatures Christmas Eve ranged from the low 50's to low 60's across the state, with low temperatures in the upper 20's to mid 30's. For Christmas Day, high temperatures will range from the upper 50's to upper 60's across the state (Possibly around 70 for portions of Southern Illinois), with low temperatures in the mid 30's to mid 40's. These mild temperatures will been seen across much of the region. Additionally, outside of some remaining snow across portions of South/Central Illinois, a white Christmas will not be occurring for most of the state, as well as most of the region.
Below is a list of select cities, with actual/record high/lows for Christmas Eve...and forecast/record high/lows for Christmas Day. Several records are in jeopardy for Christmas Day...
