(12:30AM - 2/12/19) A short term update regarding the ongoing winter storm impacting the state...
At this time a large area of freezing rain continues across much of Northern Illinois, with widespread ice accumulations of 0.10-0.35" now. Freezing rain is expected to continue across Northern Illinois, slowly ending from west to east by later tonight and early tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Widespread final ice accumulations of 0.25-0.75" are still likely, with most locations ending up on the lower or middle of that range. Power outages and tree damage is likely for some areas. Additionally, a mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain continues near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. As the storm system pushes northeast on Tuesday and colder air wraps in behind, lingering precip across Northern and Central Illinois will turn to snow. Only minor snow accumulations are expected, unless closer to the Illinois/Wisconsin border.
