(2:30AM - 1/28/19) Short term update on the winter storm affecting Northern Illinois tonight...
An area of snow continues to be ongoing across much of Northern Illinois at this time. The most organized and heavier snows currently exist across Northeast Illinois, including the Chicago metro area. Snow is expected to continue for a couple more hours, ranging from moderate to heavy intensity at times, and may feature snowfall rates of 1-2" per hour at times. Some mixed precip will become likely south of I-80, as slightly "warmer" temperatures move in. The main area of snow will quickly end from west to east across early this morning (Monday morning), exiting the Chicago metro area by or around the start of the morning rush hour period. However, lingering scattered snow and mixed precip will continue into the morning and afternoon hours.
