(7:00PM - 1/22/19) Evening short term update on the winter storm affecting Northern Illinois with wintry precipitation...
Across much of Northern Illinois, freezing rain/drizzle has given way to snow of varying intensity this evening. This change over to snow has been thanks in part to heavy precip moving into the area. Currently the rain/snow line is roughly near I-80; with a mix along this line, snow north and plain rain south. The rain/snow line is holding steady for now, but is expected to lift north early tonight. This will allow precip to change to a mix or plain rain further north, though it's expected areas from near I-88 on north to the Illinois/Wisconsin border will stay all snow.
