(3:00PM Thur, Sept 1st 2022) The latest NOAA drought monitor update valid August 30th, 2022 continues to show portions of Illinois experiencing abnormally dry (D0) to moderate drought (D1) conditions. With this update there was a mix of some drought improvement for some areas and some drought expansion for other areas across the state. However, the area of severe drought (D2) conditions has been removed across Eastern Illinois. This is the first update without severe drought (D2) conditions anywhere across the state in two months, since late June.
Impacts... •Abnormally dry (D0) to moderate drought (D1) conditions continue across portions of the state. •The most widespread and significant drought conditions continue to be across portions of Central Illinois. The next drought monitor update will be on Sept 8th.
