Summer Warmth Finally On The Way?

(6:30PM - 6/24/19) The calendar may say it's the end of June and that we're in summer, but the weather has not followed, with a "cool" and wet pattern in place since April. It appears we will finally turn the page weather wise to summer for the next 7-10 days.

A pattern that has featured persistent troughing, lingering frontal boundaries and a northwest flow at times, has held the state and region in an overall "cool" and wet pattern since April. These unfavorable patterns have lead to long periods of below average temperatures, heavy rainfall totals and flooding. It appears there will be a short break in this pattern, between now and the middle of next week, that will allow a more summer-like pattern to set in for a short time.

A developing ridge will settle in across the Central US for a several day period, shunting the jet stream to the north towards Canada. This will help pull in warmer temperatures aloft from the Western and Central US, in part allowing warmer temperatures to be possible across the state during the period. Starting today through the middle of next week, high temperatures across much of the state will be well into the 80's most days, with a few days of low 90's possible as well. Along with the warmer temperatures will also come increased dew points and humidity levels as well. While the main jet stream will be shunted to the north, being on the northeast side of the ridge will keep the state in the path of weaker disturbances and a weak flow aloft. This will unfortunately mean that some portions of the state may have daily rain and t'storm chances, some of which could be severe.
