(2:00PM - 4/14/19) Post storm wrap up regarding the recent Sun, April 14th Snowstorm that affected Northern and Central Illinois...
This storm system produced a significant and record breaking snowstorm by April standards across portions of Northern and Central Illinois. An area of rain overspread Central Illinois Saturday night, pushing into portions of Northern Illinois late Saturday night and very early Sunday morning. As dynamic and evaporative cooling occurred, this rain turned to snow across much of Northern and Central Illinois. Snow then continued from Sunday morning through Sunday evening. An extended period of moderate to heavy snow occurred for many areas, as intense banding set up. Conditions were also favorable for thundersnow, with numerous instances having occurred. An axis of 3-6" of snow occurred from Western Illinois up into Northeast Illinois, with an embedded corridor of 6-9" having occurred across portions of North-Central to Northeast Illinois. Below is a map representation of final snowfall totals across the state and adjacent areas.
