(7:30PM - 2/23/19) A high wind event is expected across the state from tonight into Sunday night...
The current storm system affecting the state is expected to rapidly deepen overnight and Sunday morning, entering Canada late tomorrow morning around 976mb or so. As this system deepens as it departs the region and a high pressure begins to enter, this will set up a strong pressure rise. The combination of these two factors, as well as others, will lead to a period of high winds from tonight into Sunday night across the state.
High winds will first begin across Western and Southwest Illinois in the vicinity of midnight. High winds will spread across Central and Southern Illinois overnight, continuing into Sunday afternoon. Wind gusts across much of Central and Southern Illinois will range from 40-55mph. Isolated tree damage and power outages are possible.
Further north, high winds will spread across Northern Illinois early Sunday morning, then continuing into early Sunday night. Winds gusts of 50-60mph are likely across this area. Some tree damage and power outages are likely. Below is our TAM wind forecast for this event.
