(1:45AM - 1/28/19) An important update regarding the winter storm affecting portions of the state tonight...
Sunday evening model guidance overall came in with continued majority support regarding forecasted snowfall amounts across the area. However, a very few of the hi-res models were a bit drier, showing a bit less snowfall. Over the past several hours of watching upstream observations and snowfall reports across Iowa and Minnesota, two things have become apparent... One is that the few hi-res models that were drier have the correct idea, and second is that snowfall ratios are less than model guidance had also depicted. The combination of less precipitation amounts and lower snow ratios means less snow is likely for many areas.
With that said, we will be decreasing expected final snowfall totals across a good portion of Northern Illinois, with the greatest reduction being north of I-88 on up to the Illinois/Wisconsin border.
Below is our updated TAM snowfall forecast.
