Sun-Mon, Jan. 27-28th Winter Storm Update #6

Similar to the past two updates, model guidance today has come in with a similar idea, with having this storm system track near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. This would place the heaviest snowfall amounts across Central and Southern Wisconsin, though formidable amounts will still extend into far Northern Illinois. Snow is expected to push into Northwest Illinois early Sunday evening. This will quickly spread across much of Northern Illinois during the remainder of the evening, and then continue Sunday night and into early Monday morning. Periods of moderate to heavy snow and snowfall rates of 1-2" per hour possible at times. Following this will be a period of snow showers on the backside of the system Monday morning into Monday night. Snowfall accumulations will range from 1-3" closer to I-80, to 3-6" around I-88, then 6-9" amounts up closer to the Illinois/Wisconsin border.

Further south across Central and Southern Illinois rain turning to snow would be possible along the cold front, with little to no snow accumulation.
