(10:45PM - 11/9/19) A snow event will affect much of the state, Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.
In previous updates, model guidance was a large amount of disagreement, with two main camps...Foreign guidance was snowier and more organized, while American guidance was drier and weaker. Through the day today, American guidance has caved to foreign guidance, with now very good agreement overall for the event. Due to this, we have slightly bumped up snowfall amounts, and confidence is high.
With that said, an area of snow is expected to spread across Northern Illinois Sunday evening. This area of snow will continue across Northern Illinois into later Monday morning or early afternoon. Snow will also spread across portions of Central Illinois, early Monday morning through Monday afternoon. Across Southern Illinois, rain will turn to snow Monday afternoon, then continuing through Monday evening. At this point it looks likely that much of the state will see snowfall accumulations upwards of 1-3". A heavier swath of accumulations of 2-5" will be possible across much of Northern Illinois, with locally higher amounts possible. Additionally, lake effect and lake enhancement will be possible for areas of Northeast Illinois near Lake Michigan.
Following the snow event, record cold temperatures continue to look likely across the state, for early in the week. A snow cover for many areas will only help ensure that the cold temps will be likely. Stay tuned for additional future updates on the snow event and likely record cold. Below is the TAM snowfall forecast for this event.
