(11:30AM Thur, March 2nd 2023) A winter storm will move through the region tonight through Friday, bringing multiple modes of weather to the state. With this update we have significantly shifted the snowfall forecast, based on significant changes in model guidance overnight. Also, we have increased expected rainfall totals and flooding potential across portions of Southern Illinois. Little to no changes were needed to the severe t'storm and high wind forecasts.
Timing & Location... •Severe T'Storm Risk: Early Friday morning - Early Friday afternoon, March 3rd: Southern Illinois. •Snow: Friday morning - Early Friday night, March 3rd: Northern Illinois. •High Winds: Early Friday morning - Early Friday night, March 3rd: Central & Southern Illinois. •Heavy Rain/Flooding: Early tonight - Early Friday night, March 2-3rd: Central & Southern Illinois. Impacts... •A level 1 to 2 severe t'storm risk is in place across Southern Illinois, from early Friday morning through early Friday afternoon. Isolated to widely scattered severe t'storms will be possible, posing a risk of damaging winds, hail and an isolated tornado. •Snow will be possible across portions of Northern and Central Illinois, Friday morning through early Friday night. Snow accumulation ranging from a dusting-1" to 2-5" is possible. •Periods of high winds are expected across Central and Southern Illinois, early Friday morning through early Friday night. Wind gusts of 35-50MPH are expected, with locally higher wind gusts possible. •Rainfall is expected across Central and Southern Illinois early today night through early Friday night, with a corridor of heavy rainfall likely across portions of Central and Southern Illinois. Rainfall totals upwards of 1.00-4.00" are expected in the heavy rainfall axis, with localized to scattered flooding likely.
