(11:30PM Thur, March 2nd 2023) A winter storm will move through the region tonight through Friday, bringing multiple modes of weather to the state. With this update we have increased severe t'storm probabilities across portions of Southern Illinois, increased expected rainfall totals and flooding potential across portions of Southern Illinois, and have slightly increased high wind gust potential across portions of Central and Southern Illinois. Little to no changes were needed to the snowfall forecast.
Timing & Location... •Severe T'Storm Risk: Early Friday morning - Early Friday afternoon, March 3rd: Southern Illinois. •Snowfall: Friday morning - Early Friday night, March 3rd: Northern Illinois. •High Winds: Early Friday morning - Early Friday night, March 3rd: Central & Southern Illinois. •Heavy Rain/Flooding: Tonight - Early Friday night, March 2-3rd: Central & Southern Illinois. Impacts... •A level 1 to 3 severe t'storm risk is in place across Southern Illinois, from early Friday morning through early Friday afternoon. Isolated to scattered severe t'storms are likely, posing a risk of damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. •Snow will be possible across portions of Northern and Central Illinois, Friday morning through early Friday night. Snow accumulation ranging from a dusting-1" to 2-5" is possible. Locally higher snowfall totals are possible in the main axis. •Periods of high winds are expected across Central and Southern Illinois, early Friday morning through early Friday night. Wind gusts of 35-55MPH are expected. •Widespread heavy rainfall is expected across Central and Southern Illinois tonight through early Friday night. Rainfall totals upwards of 1.00-5.00" are expected in the heavy rainfall axis, with locally higher rainfall amounts possible. Localized to widespread flooding is expected.
