(10:00PM - 5/13/20) A storm system moving through the region will bring the chance for severe t'storms to portions of the state on Thursday.
Synopsis... Early day showers and t'storms are expected to be ongoing across Northern Illinois and portions of Central Illinois Thursday morning. It is possible a few of these t'storms will be strong, with small hail and gusty winds being possible. In the wake of this activity, some clearing and destabilization will occur ahead of an advancing cold front. Scattered showers and t'storms are likely to develop during the afternoon along and ahead of this cold front, across Northern and Western Illinois, into Iowa and Missouri. This activity will then push eastward across Northern and Central Illinois, Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. The environment in place is expected to feature decent instability, good moisture, good forcing and good shear. This will help support upwards of a limited severe t'storm threat across much of Northern and Central Illinois. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats, though an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. It is possible high severe t'storm probabilities will be needed in later updates. It should be noted that in addition to the severe t'storm potential, there could be an area in the vicinity of I-80 that receives heavy rainfall with some flood potential. This would be due to the Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon-night rounds of rain and t'storms.. We are watching this potential, and will provide updates as needed. Below is the severe t'storm forecast for Thursday - Thursday night.
