(11:45AM - 5/14/20) A storm system moving through the region will bring the chance for severe t'storms to portions of the state today into tonight.
Synopsis... Early day showers and t'storms have been ongoing this morning across Northerna nd Central Illinois. In the wake of this activity, some clearing and destabilization will occur ahead of an advancing cold front. A new round of scattered showers and t'storms are expected to develop during the afternoon along and ahead of this cold front, across Northern and Western Illinois, into Iowa and Missouri. This activity will then push eastward across Northern and Central Illinois, this afternoon into tonight. Some of this activity may make it into Southern Illinois very late tonight or early Friday morning. The environment in place is expected to feature decent instability, good moisture, good forcing and good shear. This will help support upwards of a limited severe t'storm threat across much of Northern and Central Illinois. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats, though an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Below is the severe t'storm forecast for this event.
