(12:00AM - 2/19/19) Model guidance continues to be in decent agreement regarding the expected storm system that will push across the region, bringing snow to much of the state Tuesday evening into Wednesday evening...
An area of snow is expected to push into Southern Tuesday evening. This snow will last for a couple hour period before precipitation quickly changes over to rain, as "warmer" temperatures move in at the surface and aloft. The same progression will also happen across Central Illinois...Snow will move in across this area Tuesday night, with a couple hour period of snow likely, before a change over to rain by Wednesday morning. Prior to the change over to rain, light snow accumulations are likely for Central and Southern Illinois. It should be noted that a brief period of freezing rain may accompany the change over from snow to rain for some areas, with only minor ice accumulation possible.
Further north, snow will push into Northern Illinois later Tuesday night. This snow will continue into later Wednesday afternoon, before ending. It is likely that snow will change to sleet/freezing rain for a time across portions of Northern Illinois as precip ends Wednesday afternoon, with minor accumulation possible. Snowfall accumulations across Northern Illinois will be light as well, with highest accumulations closer to the Illinois/Iowa border.
