(3:00PM - 2/19/19) Afternoon update regarding the expected snow and ice event from this evening into Wednesday evening. The main change this update was to slightly increase ice amounts across the state, as well as trim snow amounts for far Southern Illinois and portions of Western Illinois...Otherwise ongoing forecasting is generally the same overall.
An area of mixed precipitation is expected to push into Southern this evening. This precip will last for a couple hour period before precip quickly changes over to rain, as "warmer" temperatures move in at the surface and aloft. The same progression will also happen across Central Illinois...Snow will move in across this area tonight, with a couple hour period of snow likely, before a change over to freezing rain and then rain by Wednesday morning. Prior to the change over to rain, light snow and ice accumulations are likely for Central and Southern Illinois.
Further north, snow will push into Northern Illinois later tonight. This snow will continue into later Wednesday afternoon, before changing to freezing rain for a time, and then ending by Wednesday evening. Snow and ice accumulations across Northern Illinois will be light as well, with highest more towards Northwest Illinois, where 3-6" is likely.
