​​(8:00PM - 1/20/22) A period of cold temperatures will continue to affect the state and region, through Friday. While cold temperatures are nothing new to Illinois at this time of year, a brief shot of very cold conditions will continues for portions of the state tonight into Friday morning.

An area of high pressure moved from the Northern Plains Wednesday night, through the Midwest on today, and will move through the Great Lakes on Friday. A shot of cold temperatures is accompanying this area of high pressure as it moves through the region.

Very cold conditions are expected tonight into Friday morning across Northwest Illinois, where low temperatures will range from 0 to -9 and wind chills will range from -5 to -20. Across the remainder of the state, cold temperature and will chills are also expected, though at slightly moderated levels.
