(10:45AM - 1/14/20) A fast moving and weak storm system will move across the region tonight into Wednesday, bringing with it the chance for freezing rain across Northern Illinois from later tonight into Wednesday afternoon.
As a weak and fast moving storm system moves through the region tonight into Wednesday, an associated area of light precipitation will develop and spread across the state during that time-frame. Across Northern Illinois, temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20's or low 30's tonight into Wednesday morning. As precipitation moves in, it will fall in the form of freezing rain across a good portion of Northern Illinois, due to the colder temperatures in place. Freezing rain will be possible across Northern Illinois from later tonight into the day on Wednesday, before temperatures warm slightly allowing the little remaining precipitation to change over to rain, before ending. Ice accumulation of a glaze up to 0.10" is possible across Northern Illinois. The minor ice accumulation will likely lead to icy roads and travel issues for the Wednesday morning commute across Northern Illinois. Further south, precipitation will be in the form of rain showers across Central and Southern Illinois, tonight into the day on Wednesday. Below are the TAM snow and ice forecasts for this event.
