Wed, June 3rd Severe T’Storm Threat

(11:45PM - 6/1/20) A storm system moving through the region will bring the chance for severe t’storms to portions of the state on Wednesday.

A weakening complex of showers and t’storms will likely be ongoing across Northern Illinois Wednesday morning. In the wake of this activity, some clearing and destabilization will likely occur ahead of a cold front advancing across the state. Showers and t’storms are expected to develop during the afternoon across Central Illinois, along the cold front and any potential lingering outflow boundary from early day activity. This activity will then push southeast across Central and Southern Illinois, Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. An environment expected to be in place will feature moderate instability, good moisture, decent shear and decent forcing. This will all aide in upwards of a minimal severe t’storm threat across much of Central and Southern Illinois. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. It is possible higher severe t’storm probabilities maybe be needed in future outlooks, if confidence and/or potential severity increase.
