Wed, June 3rd Severe T’Storm Threat Update #3

(12:30PM - 6/3/20) A storm system moving through the region will bring the chance for severe t’storms to portions of the state, today into tonight.

Clusters of showers and t’storms have been moving across Northern Illinois this morning, with a few isolated t’storms having been severe earlier this morning. This activity has been weakening over the past several hours, and will continue to diminish with time.

In the wake of the early day activity, clearing and destabilization will likely occur ahead of a cold front advancing across the state. Showers and t’storms are expected to develop during this afternoon across Central Illinois, along the cold front and any potential lingering outflow boundary from early day activity. This activity will then congeal into several clusters, pushing southeast across Central and Southern Illinois, this afternoon into tonight. An environment expected to be in place will feature high instability, great moisture, decent shear and decent forcing. This will all aide in upwards of a limited severe t’storm threat across much of Central and Southern Illinois. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
