(11:30AM - 10/14/20) A storm system moving through the region today will bring high winds and elevated fire danger to much of the state.

A storm system moving through the region will bring high winds and elevated fire danger to the state today. Winds have been gradually increasing across the state this morning, and will continue to do so into the early afternoon. The period of highest winds will be roughly from midday into this evening, when wind gusts of 35-50MPH will be common across a large portion of the state. During the evening winds will quickly diminish, when a cold front will be quickly sweeping across the state. On the backside of the storm system, winds will once again increase overnight across Northern and Central Illinois, with wind gusts of 20-35MPH possible. 

In addition to the high wind threat, an elevated fire danger will exist as well across the heart of the state. The combination of continued overall dry conditions across much of the state, lower dew points/humidity, and high winds...will lead to an elevated fire danger. Any fall field and foliage burning should be held off for calmer weather day.
