(8:30PM - 7/17/19) A multi-day heat wave will continue to affect the state through Sunday, with widespread hot and humid conditions are likely.
7/18/19 - Thursday/Night Forecast... High temperatures on Thursday will likely reach the low to upper 90's across much of the state. Heat index readings will range from 100-112 across the state. Low temperatures Thursday night will stay in the 70's for most of the state, with temperatures closer to 80 possible for the more urban areas, such as Chicago and St. Louis. It should be noted that some model guidance suggests a weakening complex of rain and t'storms may push into portions of Northern Illinois Thursday morning. Should this scenario unfold, this may temper high temperatures across portions of Northern Illinois a bit. 7/19/19 - Friday/Night Forecast... High temperatures on Friday will likely reach the mid to upper 90's across much of the state, with local low 100's possible. Heat index reading will range from 100-112 across the state. Low temperatures Friday night will stay in the 70's for most of the state, with temperatures closer to 80 or in the low 80's possible for the more urban areas, such as Chicago and St. Louis. A developing ridge across the middle of the country will bring an extended period of hot and humid conditions to the state, Wednesday through Sunday. A southwest flow aloft will continuously pull in warmer temperatures aloft into the region. With good mixing of the atmosphere expected, high temperatures across the state will likely range from the low 90's to low 100's across the state during the period. Thursday through Saturday look to be the hottest days of the period, with widespread high temperatures in the mid 90's to low 100's likely across the state.
In addition to the hot temperatures, high humidity is also expected. Dew points will likely be well into the 70's much of the period, which when combined with high temperatures in the low 90's to low 100's, will lead to heat indices of 100-115 during much of the period.
Low temperatures will also stay quite warm, only getting down into the 70's for much of the state during the period. However, low temperatures will likely stay near 80 or in the low 80's for urban ares, Thursday through Saturday. The St. Louis and Chicago areas are most susceptible for this. As modeled at this time, this will be a higher end heat wave, with records in play for many areas. This will likely be the most significant and widespread heat wave across the state since 2012. Below is the TAM heat and humidity forecast for Wednesday through Sunday.
