(1:30PM - 2/6/19) Another ice event is likely for portions of the state this afternoon into Thursday morning, as the main storm system finally pushes across the region.
Precipitation will push back into the state this afternoon and evening. This activity will likely fall as freezing rain at first for much of Northwest and North-Central Illinois. Precip will then turn to plain rain for North-Central Illinois, and possibly much of Northwest Illinois, before turning back to freezing rain for far Northwest Illinois. As was the case with yesterdays ice event, thunderstorms will once again be likely, which could flip precip to sleet/ice pellets and maybe some small hail at times. Precip will come to an end Thursday morning for affected areas. Also as with yesterdays event, a small change in temps warmer or cooler could lead to more or less ice accrual.
The highest ice accumulations will be across far Northwest Illinois, where 0.10-0.25" ice accrual is likely. Elsewhere, only a glaze to less than 0.10" is possible.
